All is quiet in the vineyards of the Cape Winelands at the moment. In Franschhoek the weather is very cold and rainy, which is perfect from a viticultural point of view. The main task during August is the continuation of winter pruning which I hope to have done by the end of the month. In the winery, I have to get all the 2009 vintage whites and rosés labelled before they are released for sale in early September.

During September I will be travelling and working in France, including helping with a harvest in Burgundy, as part of my ongoing skills acquisition. I’m hoping to focus on Chardonnay to appreciate what styles may work well within the context of Rickety Bridge. I'm also very keen to visit the North and Southern Rhône to see what styles may complement the Foundation Stone wine that is to be released soon.
